Howard Student Wins 2017 NextGen Scholarship

Howard Student Wins 2017 NextGen Scholarship

BELTSVILLE, MD –August 3, 2017 – Beltsville-based advisory firm, P.E.R.K. Consulting, is proud to announce Courtni Foster as the recipient of the 2017 NextGen Scholarship. The NextGen Scholarship fund is awarded annually to a deserving international or non-citizen student striving to obtain higher education. Courtni Foster, a transfer student at Howard University, is the third recipient of this premier local scholarship.

During her time in college, P.E.R.K. Consulting president, Andrena Sawyer, witnessed the lack of resources available to international students like herself. Ms. Sawyer was troubled that many deserving and exceptional students lacked access to good opportunities because of their international student status, so she created the scholarship fund. Applicants this year hailed from 12 countries on six continents.

Foster, a senior at Howard University, thoroughly impressed the scholarship panel with her academic merit, leadership qualities, and community service. Originally from Jamaica, Foster is currently a member of the Biology Honors Program at Howard University, and hopes to earn her MD/PhD to make a positive contribution through research and science. Her ultimate aspiration is to be a pediatric surgeon with a research concentration in AIDS–a career path that was inspired after watching a close family member battle the illness. Among other things, Courtni is a true role model and inspiration to all students and individuals striving to make a positive impact on the world. On August 19, 2017, she will be honored for her achievement during P.E.R.K. Consulting’s annual Embracing YOU Women’s Conference.

The NextGen Scholarship is a local scholarship program for international and non-citizen students residing in or attending a college in the Washington metropolitan. Qualifying applicants must be college-accepted high school seniors or current undergraduate students attending a two-year or four-year college. Applications are available in the spring and recipients are notified during the summer.
