The Power of Self Confidence

The Power of Self Confidence

It is a fact that 90 percent of all women would like to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance (Girl Scout Research Institute, 2010). Could this be due to the amount of pressure being placed on women to display a certain image?  I know from firsthand experience that low self confidence limits your ability to live an authentically happy and fulfilling life. In fact, I unfortunately spent many years of my life believing that I was not beautiful. I would literally find something wrong with every aspect of my appearance. However, it did not stop there, because confidence impacts every aspect of your life. The word confidence is typically connected to physical appearance. However, confidence also relates to what you believe that you are capable of achieving. For this reason, it is important to understand the power attached to being confident. First, when you are confident, you are aware of your weaknesses, but you choose to focus on your strengths. Second, when you are confident, you view challenges as opportunities, instead of viewing them as obstacles. Third, when you are confident, you set higher expectations. Finally, when you are confident, you understand your value and you refuse to settle for mediocrity in your personal and professional life.

When you begin to expect more, you will begin to receive more. How you feel about yourself and your capabilities determines your level of success. It is easy to pretend that you are confident. However, what matters most is what you say to yourself when it is just you and the mirror. Today, I challenge you to embrace your unique attributes. I also challenge you to affirm your inner and outer beauty. As women, we have so much to offer, yet we sometimes only focus on our physical appearance. It is okay to be mindful of your physical appearance. However, it is equally important that you highlight the many gifts, talents and skills that you possess. There is no one else who should believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Please do not allow self-doubt to prevent you from living the life that you deserve. When you are confident, you are creating an opportunity for you to maximize your potential and experience authentic happiness.
