The NextGen Scholarship

2018 Applications Will Open on February 19th!

During her time in college P.E.R.K. Consulting President, Andrena Sawyer, saw firsthand how easy it was for deserving students to lose out on good opportunities because of the lack of resources for international students. The NextGen Scholarship Fund was created for international students and non-citizens who come to the United States with hopes of obtaining higher education to create a better life for themselves and their families. It is a local (Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia) scholarship program that provides one annual award to a qualified and outstanding high school senior or a current college student at a two-year or four-year college. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be an international student or non-citizen enrolled in a US school. All applications must be filled out completely. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications are judged on merit and financial need. One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded each Fall.

The recipient of the 2017 NextGen Scholarship was Courtni Foster. Courtni, a transfer student at Howard University, with a 4.0 GPA, thoroughly impressed the scholarship panel with her academic merit, leadership qualities, and community service. Originally from Jamaica, Courtni is currently a member of the Biology Honors Program at Howard University, and hopes to earn her MD/PhD to make a positive contribution through research and science. Her ultimate aspiration is to be a Pediatric surgeon with a research concentration in AIDS.

Her empathy and passion for life stems from having been surrounded by sickness and disaster for most of her life, and wanting to contribute to the change she desires to see in the world. As a student in high school she was the Service Director of the Hampton School Interact club where she used the platform to help the surrounding community. Among other things, Courtni is a true role model and inspiration to all students and individuals striving to make a positive impact on the world.
