NextGen Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the application deadline for The NextGen Scholarship Fund in 2022?

A: There will not be a scholarship awarded in 2022 but the scholarship will reopen for the 2023 school year.

Q: When is the application deadline for The NextGen Scholarship Fund?

A: Applications will reopen on February 1, 2023. Applications must be completed and postmarked by March 31, 2023. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Q: Do I have to write an essay?
A:
 Yes. We require two essays. Each essay needs to be approximately 500 words. You must choose two of the four essay topics to write about.

Q: Who can write my letters of recommendation?
A: We ask for two letters of recommendation and ask that at least one be from a professor, teacher, principal or high school guidance counselor. You may also provide letters of recommendation from an employer, clergy member, coach or mentor.

Q: Where should I send my supplemental packet?
A: A complete scholarship application not only includes your completed online scholarship application, but also a supplemental packet. Your supplemental packet includes: two (2) letters of recommendation (one of which must be from a professor, teacher, principal or high school guidance counselor), an official transcript from your current school or college, and proof acceptance or enrollment at a college or university. Q: How/when are awardees notified? Will I be notified if I don’t receive an award?
A: The awardee will be notified of the  decision by mail by July 13, 2023. Applicants who do not receive an award will also receive notification. 

Q: May I apply for the scholarship if I am not attending university in the United States?
A: No. The scholarship is only available to students who will be attending a college or university in the United States.

Q: What are the residency requirements? What if I do not live in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia?
A: This scholarship is restricted to students who reside in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia. Students who do not reside in the area, but will be attending school in the Washington DC tri-state area may also apply.

Q: Can the scholarship be used for graduate studies? 
A: No. The NextGen Scholarship is available to graduating High School students and students who are continuing their undergraduate studies.
